Oh, Pearl

On January 22nd, 2009, my 14 year old Border Collie, Footestep, had to be put to sleep do to a large tumor on the left side of her snout. The growth had just started to cover up her left nostril and would have eventually covered up both. We wanted to get another similar dog, but instead of getting a border collie, we got an Australian Shepard named Pearl. The breeder had named her Pearl and we decided to name her something else. The top three names we came up with were Bristo, Sydney, and Isabelle. But when we met her and got to know her, we decided that Pearl was the best fitting name for her. She turned out to be anything but a Pearl. She has been having accidents on the rug now for almost nine months. She enjoys chewing up underwear as well as flip flops and shoe laces. My mom now has no pairs of flip flops and when ever she gets more, Pearl finds them and starts to chew them. Any time she smells food on the counter she jumps up and looks around and occasionally gets something. She knows not to do most of those things however she still does them to attract attention. She constantly barks at strangers and even friends, just not as much. She constantly is wanting to go outside to play with the hose and chew mulch and grass and pretty much whatever she can find. It is really funny to watch her play in the water because she tries to bight at it and bark at it. All we do is lead the stream in front of her so she can chase it and drain some energy. My parents take her on two walks and a bike ride but sometimes all that does not even drain enough energy. On the bike ride my dad rides the bike and holds the leash connected to the collar and pearl gets a jog beside him. But the one thing that always gets to me is how excited she gets when we walk in the door or let her out of the kennel. She is a very affectionate dog who loves people and other dogs to play with. Her best friend’s name is Charlie, a Rottweiler about a month younger than Pearl is. She is a family friend’s dog who is a sweet and one of the most lovable dogs I have ever known. Charlie gives the sloppiest kisses filled with love. My dog on the other hand gives very gentle kisses. Pearl also eats out of our hands very carefully and gently. Pearl is a persistent dog who never gives up. But you can’t not love her. When trying to come up with words to describe her, I just couldn’t find the right word, so I decided Pearl is just her own adjective.

Why we need to take chocolate out of breakfast foods.

I believe chocolate should be a dessert not something to start the day out with. If you start the day out with chocolate the rest of the day you will be craving sugar. Personally I think you should not even eat sugary things for breakfast at all. If the rest of the day you are craving sugar, it can result in unhealthy eating pretty much the whole rest of the day. Today’s society eats chocolate infested breakfast foods like Pop Tarts, cereal, muffins, waffles, and pankakes. When you think of chocolate, you don’t think of breakfast, you think of dessert.
